The Dangers of Anemia
Anemia is a condition in which not enough healthy red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body. The poor blood oxygen levels and blood vessel blockages that result lead to chronic, agonizing pain, severe infections, organ failure and potential death.
Anemia is a factor in almost all maternal deaths and poses a 5-fold increase in the overall risk of maternal death related to pregnancy and delivery. 570 million women — one in three of reproductive age — are anaemic.

Close to 500,000 maternal deaths ascribed to childbirth or early post-partum occur every year, the vast majority taking place in the developing world.

We have also screened over 35,000 women and children so far for anemia. We use innovative, noninvasive handheld monitors to quickly and painlessly screen patients.
We have also built an innovative network of modern solar-powered maternal and family clinics in neglected rural areas & urban slums. Through these centers of excellence we help poor, vulnerable women safely deliver healthy babies, as well as provide child vaccinations, training for nurses and midwives, prostate screening and other critical services for men, and more.
